Senate Foreign Relations Committee Discusses Regional Situation with Egyptian Counterpart

Amman, January 22 - The Senate's Arab, International and Expatriate Affairs Committee, headed by Senator Dr. Hani Al-Mulki, discussed developments in the region today, Wednesday, during its meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign, Arab and African Affairs Committee in the Egyptian Senate Hazem Omar.

The meeting, which took place at the Senate House, was attended by the Chairman of the Jordanian-Egyptian Brotherhood Committee in the Senate, Senator Dr. Ahmed Tabishat, and the Egyptian Ambassador to the Kingdom, Mohamed Samir.

Mulki said that the historical relations between Jordan and Egypt are a model to be emulated among countries in joint Arab cooperation, especially in light of the level of relations in various fields, especially parliamentary, economic and cultural.

He pointed to the convergence of the Jordanian-Egyptian political position on the Palestinian issue, noting the importance of the Hashemite guardianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, to preserve its Arab identity and sanctity.

Al-Mulki spoke about the current situation in the region and the issues of the Arab nation, noting His Majesty King Abdullah II's emphasis on Jordan's support for Syria in building a free, independent state with full sovereignty, and supporting its security, territorial integrity and the stability of its institutions, which will positively reflect on the interests of Jordan and the region.

He touched on the meetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II and his brother President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and their efforts to maintain coordination and consultation in light of the difficult circumstances that the Arab nation is going through, which require unifying efforts to confront the dangers and challenges facing it, as well as the position of the two countries on regional issues, with regard to Syria and what is happening in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and the need to push towards a just and comprehensive solution that leads to achieving peace, security and stability in the region.

Al-Mulki stressed the need to stop the Israeli aggression in the West Bank, and the importance of concerted efforts to consolidate the ceasefire agreement and fully commit to it towards the reconstruction of Gaza, and building on it to find real prospects for reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, appreciating Egypt's pivotal and primary role in reaching the agreement. In turn, Omar said that Jordanian-Egyptian relations are fraternal, strong and historical, and that their foundations were laid by the wise leadership of the two brotherly countries, pointing to the distinguished relationship that links the leadership of the two countries and peoples. He appreciated Jordan's positions, led by His Majesty the King, towards various local, regional and international issues, and the convergence of the Egyptian and Jordanian positions towards the Palestinian issue, which is the central issue for both countries, as well as with regard to issues of common interest related to the refugee file and the reconstruction of Syria and Gaza. In turn, members of the Senate Committee stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and holding more meetings between Jordanian and Egyptian parliamentarians, pointing to the need to increase cooperation between Amman and Cairo in various fields, especially economic, educational and cultural, in order to serve the common interests of both countries.
