Senate Finance Discusses Private Sector Social Responsibility

Amman, March 3 - Senate President Faisal El-Fayez called for expanding the base of social responsibility by the private sector, appreciating the role played by companies, institutions and banks in establishing programs and projects that contribute to reducing the phenomena of poverty and unemployment.

This came during his chairing of part of the Senate Finance and Economic Committee meeting today, Monday, on the social responsibility of private sector companies and institutions, in the presence of the committee’s chairman, Dr. Rajai Al-Maasher.
El-Fayez said: “In Jordan, due to the economic challenges we face as a result of the current situation in the region, we need to all be partners in confronting the economic difficulties that the country is going through, and to enhance the values of giving and social solidarity to preserve our unity and the cohesion of our social fabric and contribute to improving the living conditions of citizens.”

He stressed the importance of following the approach of His Majesty King Abdullah II, who does not skimp on his people with his noble and continuous generosity, which aims to improve the living conditions of citizens and charitable families, and provides support to various social, charitable and humanitarian work funds.

For his part, the head of the committee, Dr. Rajai Al-Muasher, stressed the importance of unifying efforts in the field of social responsibility, in addition to giving national programs that suffer from a lack of funding the necessary attention by private sector companies and institutions when preparing their budgets and solidarity programs.

He explained that there are about 10,000 families waiting to receive aid from the National Aid Fund, in addition to 25,000 students who were unable to obtain an educational loan from the Poor Student Fund due to the lack of funding.

The meeting discussed the mechanisms of governance and unification of the work of social responsibility programs within a clear and specific methodology that enhances performance and meets development priorities.

During the meeting, experiences in social responsibility were presented by the following companies: Phosphate, Potash, Petroleum Refinery, Zain, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Association of Banks, and Federation of Insurance Companies. The meeting was attended by the Chairmen of the Boards of Directors: Phosphate Mines Company, Dr. Mohammad Al-Dhanibat, Arab Potash, Eng. Shahada Abu Hadeeb, Jordan Petroleum Refinery, Eng. Abdul Rahim Al-Baqaei, Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir, Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mamoun Al-Dabai, Vice Chairman of the Banks Association Management Association, Mr. Ammar Al-Safadi, CEO of the Jordan Insurance Federation, Dr. Muayad Al-Kloub, and Executive Director of Social Responsibility and Media at Zain, Tariq Al-Bitar.
